The Clarence Thomas Center HABS Report was compiled in Dillon's Construction Technology studio. Using the National Park Service's methodology for the Historic American Buildings Survey, Dillon and his team documented the existing conditions of Clarence Thomas Center for Historic Preservation, located in Savannah's Downtown Historic District at 439 East Broad Street. First, the history of the building was researched to provide context to the form, composition, and ornamentation of the building's design. Next, Dillon conducted several days of field documentation looking specifically at the rear facade, the second floor, and the interior doors. From there, Dillon composed elevation, plan, detail, and section drawings.

Later in his Documenting the Build Environment studio, Dillon and his team conducted HABS field documentation at the Thomas Gamble Building, located in the Downtown Historic District at 4 East Bay Street. Again, the collected measurement and photographs were translated into section drawings of the Great Room on the third floor. From both abbreviated reports, Dillon built skills of field work practices, digital drafting, and documentation ethics for historic structures.
