"Crawford Specialty Foods Marlet" Rendered by James Dillon Yeager III

Crawford Specialty Foods Market was designed during Dillon's Elements of Style and Elegance in the Classical Tradition Studio. In the studio, Dillon refined his skills and knowledge of the Classical Language of architecture, which were employed in his design proposal for compatible infill development within the design regulation of Savannah's Downtown Historic District. First, Dillon conducted classical order studies, which he used to compose detail drawings in the style of Vignola and an École des Beaux-Arts style analytique. Next, Dillon employed Classical ornament by incorporating the orders into a facade drawing. Using this understanding of traditional design, Dillon reimagined the site at 225 Houston Street as a sympathetic, infill development that would bolster Crawford Square's sense of place through aesthetics. This idea is being further explored in Dillon's Capstone project, The Preservation of Civic Well-Bering & Urban Beauty: Designing Gates of Place for Main Streets in Historic Downtowns, which will be released in April 2023. Until then, please scroll down to the design's Presentation Board, Analytique of the WIlliam Scarborough House, The Denticulated Doric Order of Independent Presbyterian Church, and Colossal Doric Facade Study.
