"Kiah Latin Academy" Rendered by James Dillon Yeager III
The Kiah Latin Academy Adaptive Reuse Proposal was produced during Dillon's Innovative Adaptation Practicum. In the studio, Dillon collaborated with Historic Savannah Foundation to propose a new use and design for the 1910 Kiah House, located at 505 W 36th Street in Savannah's Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood. This proposal is driven by the ideas of place, community, and heritage, which Dillon explored further by visiting archives, conducting interviews, and researching the theory of Kevin Lynch. After documenting the structure's as-is conditions, Dillon used his historical, theoretical, and regulatory analysis to determine feasibility. Part of the project parameters also included an application for the Georgia State Income Tax Credit Program for Rehabilitated Historic Property. Finally, Dillon proposed an academic use as a Classical model school, based on his earlier research on the property's last owner, Virginia Kiah. Dillon reprogrammed the space to accommodate this use producing new plans for the house. In addition, Dillon provided electrical plans, exterior renderings, and further ideas for landscaping.
